Let's grab some Necessary Provisions

The lions were absolutely chuffed to bits when they heard that another coffee joint has taken root in the West. This is great news for Westies. They have been making repeat visits to W39, loving her radiant sunny yellow palette (matching the hue of their drive) and warm impeccable service. Hurray for another convenient place to chill.

Vintage Car for Cool Cats.
Frontage reminiscent of the former Henry's Congressional.
Funky Spirit doses out caffeinated drips of black gold.
Disappointed by the limited food items
in the afternoon. Come on guys, make it a full-fledged
menu. Looks like the lions gotta make another trip
down for dinner to sample the grub.
Spoilt by the predictably good coffee.
Humble home-cooked flavours to fill the rumbling
tum-tums.
Spanish Egg. Use the bread to soak up the
tomatoey gravy packed with peppers and beans.
Good to know ...
Cool place but uncomfortable seats.
Conspiracy to do a quick turn-over? Lol, joking joking.
Sitting at the round communal table with a hill-load of
magazines.
Huge kitchen and roasting space at the back.
Watch and smell as they churn out a selection of bakes.
Aladdin would love this.
A handful of cakes and cookies to choose from.

Building up Brawn & Brains

A little hole-in-the-wall coffee joint has sprung up at the former Singapore Badminton Hall housing tenants that espouse the rigorously sexy benefits of exercise. Think taut, beautiful bodies grabbing caffeine - that should be motivation enough for some to head down to the inaccessible Guillemard Road.

With a limited food menu and miniscule space, the lions savoured the good coffee (Long Black made from single origin Brazillian Santos beans by a local roaster/Double Ristretto Latte) but did not stay for long at Brawn & Brains. They caught some rock-climbing action next door and vowed to step up their fitness regime.

A Trip down Drury Lane

Another long Sunday morning helping out with ushering duties see the lions crave a caffeine fix by afternoon. All droopy-eyed, they dragged their tired feet to a new coffee joint joining the likes of Group Therapy and Ministry of Caffeine in the Tanjong Pagar district. They were thankful that this was one of the few cafes who bucked the trend by soldiering on during lazy Sundays.

Spiffy coffee machine - Check. Single origin beans - Check.
Different brew methods available - Check.
Hip &Trendy Furnishings - Check. Toothsome sweets - Check.
They got the formula right. Hopefully the coffee's great.

Crates up-recycled as stools.
Ain't that adorable?
Drury Lane is where the Muffin Man lives in the
popular nursery rhyme.
Intriguingly ugly Carrot Cake looks so appetising.
On brew today - the tongue-tripping Dusangirijambo.
Complex name for complex notes?
Placing orders on the first floor.
Settling down by the window at the bustling second floor.
Are those seats comfortable, ladies?
Lights encased in glass jars.
Order no. 5 for a Grace-filled Sunday.
Thumbs up for the Latte! Well-executed with
chocolatey, fruity notes.
Toy Soldiers with Marmite and cheese topping along with poached egg - AWESOME.
Today's brew was not bad. Balanced without strong acidity.
Peanut butter and kaya - ingredients that usually
end up on the lioness' hate list.
However, the delicate flavours on this tea cake
received the thumbs-up from her.
Pear and Banana Muffins. More pear slices in these babies pls!
Otherwise, fluffy and light muffins that does not cloy.

Kool Kats hang out at Folks Collective

Cuchi's love for anything and everything sweat-inducingly, tongue-searingly spicy has gotten her into quite a bit of a fix as her feline husband does not share her love for chili-laden food. In fact, the lion's stomach does not seem to agree much with dishes flavoured with an abundance of herbs and spices. Over the years, however, his tolerance for dishes from the Land of Smiles has gone from to cautious indignation to curious experimentation.

One evening, Cuchi decided to indulge in her love for Thai cuisine and she coyly suggested Folks Collective. To her delight, the Lion gave his consent. And boy, they came away pretty impressed: every single dish ordered hit all the right notes.

Modern hipster Thai restaurant with colourful mismatched furniture and
an eclectic collection of vintage memorabilia from gramophones to
old TV sets.
A bustling Friday night.
Fresh flowers make an eye-catching centre-piece.
Bar area churning out lip-smacking cocktails made with
Thai-inspired ingredients like lemongrass and kaffir lime.
Hit the Jackpot while waiting for your food.
Executive Set Lunch available.
Refreshing iced lemongrass + honey.
Rootbeer served with a cute vintage aluminum cup
Grilled Pork Neck + Dried Chili Dip
This deceptively simple dish was outstanding
with its tender, well-marinated slabs of succulent meat.
Fans of Korean chicken wings will definitely dig
the Folks signature wings. Delightfully crisp skin
coated with a teasingly addictive glaze gives way to moist,
tender flesh.
Pad Thai Goong with a tangy-sweet kick.
Tom Yam Poteak. Test your strong constitution with
this clear bowl of fiercely spicy soup.
Toasted Rice crackers with minced pork dip
to end the satisfying meal

Affordable + absolutely tasty Thai fare + cheekily hip ambience = a winning F&B experience.  What's there not to like about this joint?
